Let's Be Entrepreneurs! + Let's Report!

2th March 2010, we had the opportunity to listen to an entrepreneurship talk by renowned speaker Dr. Greene from Babson College. She is a wonderful speaker and she went through all the major concerns of being a young entrepreneur with us. Her experience in the field can be felt just by listening to her explaining the characteristics of entrepreneurs. She shared with us an inspiring video which i feel i should share as well:

Entrepreneurs can change the world

The talk was for half-a-day, ended with a photograph session.

We continued with:

Advanced Report Writing Part 1 (Introduction) by Miss Norliza and Miss Nor Farahiyah. (12th March 2010)

*blogging in full-format reporting style, a sample report i created myself*

BeST Corporation

Title: Report on the level of BeST trainees understanding in business type report writing.

Objective: To understand why BeST trainees are not familiar with corporate style report writing.

Methodology:
1)A whole-day session of evaluation were conducted by Miss Norliza and Miss Nor Farahiyah to understand the 64 BeST trainees and their experiences with report writing.
2) Introduction to the format and style of business report writing as a basis of comparison with scientific lab writing.

Findings:
1) A high majority of them (about 98%) are from a Science background, they claim that they have been accustomed to writing Scientific lab reports which may have similar style/headers but different reporting techniques.
2) Science students claim the need to be accurate in presenting results, business style writing emphasizes on reporting what needs to be reported in KISS (Keep it short and simple). Less jargon needed and usage of simple but accurate sentences.

Recommendations:
1) Hands-on experience on report writing is useful. Prepare situations (mock or real-life) for the students to familiarize and practice writing business style reports.
2)  Give more examples/sample papers of corporate style reports.
